Philosophy of Education
My personal philosophy of
education tends to be very progressive. I agree with existential ideals,
but they tend to be unrealistic. I believe the teacher should act as
a guide and team with his/her students in achieving an understanding through
learning experiences. Basic understanding of core subjects is essential,
but the methods of teaching core subjects should be based on integrating
students actively in learning. It is all to often that, students become
receptors in the learning process when they need to become explorers. Teachers
must work with the students to help them find relevance in their learning
and their life. Once education becomes personally meaningful to the
student learning will become fun, which it should be, and contagious. Education
shouldn't be based on processing knowledge or good grade, but rather experiencing
and exploring learning. Knowledge and understanding are important,
but they don't really take true meaning until the student can apply and experience
them in his/her life. Activity excites and involvement enthuses and
when a student is excited and enthused about learning anything is possible.
